Caleb Plant Says Anthony Dirrell is Just Hype for the Camera

In his next prizefight, super middleweight fighter Anthony “The Dog” Dirrell (34-2-2, 25 KO’s) will face the challenge of Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (21-1, 12 KO’s). Throughout the build-up, Dirrell has told everyone who will listen about how much he dislikes Plant and even disparaged his resume. Not only has The Dog doubled-down on his distaste, he insists that no one else in the division likes the Tennessee native either.

For his part, Sweethands does not share these same sentiments as Dirrell. In fact, during a recent sit down on the Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer, Plant explained how The Dog was just another obstacle in his path and nothing more.

“With the type of fight that I had with Canelo and doing as well as I did, I wanted a big fight coming right back. I could have took a no-name and got my feet wet, got back in there and got one. But I want to carry this momentum and I wanted to get the biggest name that I could and the biggest fight that I could and this is what we were able to get. And so here we are.

[…] I don’t have no bad blood with him. He is just another dude in my way as far as I am concerned! I don’t know what he is talking about, ‘walking around acting tough all the time.’ You might not see me walking around the fights holding hands with everybody and sharing my popcorn, so I don’t know what his deal is. I think I’m good, or I think I’m the shit? You tell me what good boxer doesn’t think he’s good or think he is the shit? I’m sure he thinks he is good, that he is the shit. But when I think it, it’s different? Why is it not okay for me to think that I am good or that I am the man? That don’t make sense to me.”

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE THOUGH?!

Even though he is coming off a loss to Canelo Alvarez, Sweethands feels that he has already proven his worth as a fighter. So, while it is true that Plant does not house the same volatile emotions in his heart as The Dog, he does openly admit that he doesn’t feel that Dirrell is truly elite.

“That just sounds good for the camera. He is not going to the Hall of Fame, he has not had one successful title defense. He wants to act like this is something that I have not seen before. I am just coming off a fight with Canelo and having a great performance. Jose Uzcategui would have knocked him out, Porky Medina would have given him a barn burner.

So it’s not something that I haven’t seen before. This yip-yap that he got going on, that’s not something that I haven’t seen before either. So he can say what he wants to say, acts how he wants to act, but the bell is still going to ring on October 15 and we are still going to find out.”

By the look and sound of it, on October 15 there should be one ferocious and memorable showdown taking place between Plant and Dirrell! Let’s just hope he lives up to the pre-fight hype.
