Team Benavidez Say Caleb Plant Running From Fall Showdown!
According to Joes Benavidez Sr, David “Red Flag” Benavidez’s (25-0, 22 KO’s) father and chief second, there will be no September fight versus Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (21-1, 12 KO’s). The two teams were scheming on the fall showdown due to the two fighters revving their rivalry back up via social media.
First, Red Flag would have had to taken care of business with David Lemieux. Benavidez and Lemieux are reported to be all but done with successful fight negotiations but have not formally announced the bout.
NO DICE!
Without question, this would make for a fantastic grudge match as the two have traded words and shared mutual disdain for years. Benavidez is coming off his seven round steamrolling of Kyrone Davis. Sweethands is attempting to rebound from his first professional loss at the hands of Canelo Alvarez.
Even with the loss however, Plant maintains the current standings of #4 (WBA) and #5 (WBC). The undefeated Red Flag is ranked #1 (WBC) and #2 (WBO). Not only do their standings make this a significant would-be contest, it’d be interesting to see the two divisional enemies come face to face. But will it happen? It will also be interesting to get Plant’s two cents on this subject of passing-up the fight. No matter how the story unfolds, 3Kings Boxing will be there to report the news.
