Caleb Plant Still Wants A Clash with Edgar Berlanga

Apparently the divisional feud between super middleweight boxer Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (22-0, 17 KO’s) and one-time IBF 168-pound champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (22-2, 13 KO’s) is still percolating. The two have traded words and threatened to lump up the other if given the chance in the ring on numerous occasions. Recently, the two got into a heated spat while attending an event revolving around the Canelo versus Jaime Munguia battle.

Now, Plant has taken to his social media to harass Berlanga, ranked #4 (WBA), #4 (IBF) and #8 (WBC), for entertaining a fight with Lorenzo Simpson rather than himself.

STILL RUNNING?

If everything falls into place as Berlanga, 27, hopes that it does, then he would be heading into a fall showdown with boxing cash cow and undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Due to the popularity of Berlanga, and the appeal of a Puerto Rican versus Mexican selling point, there is a chance that The Chosen One could get the nod.

Unsurprisingly, there is a long line of boxing fans and insiders who question why Berlanga, with his exceedingly anemic resume, would be rewarded with such a huge prizefight. In fact, even Plant’s most bitter and longest standing rival, David Benavidez, thought it was blasphemy to award The Chosen One the Canelo fight with such speed.

At this current time, neither competitor has an opponent lined up. So theoretically there is nothing preventing this bout from being put together. Yet, as he is looking to lock in the Canelo fight, its highly improbable that Berlanga sullies his shot at that fight by agreeing to face Plant now. With this being the case, boxing fans will simply have to wait to see what is next for these two very visible fighters.
