Vergil Ortiz Jr. Allows Ryan Garcia To Replace Tim Tszyu

Top junior middleweight contender Vergil Ortiz Jr (21-0, 21KO) is willing to allow “King Ry” Ryan Garcia to step in for the injured one-time WBO champion Tim “The Soul Taker” Tszyu (24-1, 17KO).

The boxing community got punched in the gut with news that Ortiz Jr vs The Soul Taker is off. A cut on the top of the head the Aussie suffered in a bloody defeat against Sebastian Fundora has yet to heal. It has prevented Tszyu from being able to engage in full-contact sparring.

Ortiz versus Tszyu was part of a mega-card in California on August 3. Upon hearing that the fight wouldn’t happen, King Ry took to social media with a desire to fight Ortiz and manager Rick Meridian.

Ortiz took to social media, willing to accept Garcia as the next opponent.

PUMP THE BRAKES

There is a reality check that needs to be issued in the fact that Garcia is still not done dealing with the fallout from testing positive for the banned substance, Ostarine. He still has to deal with a possible suspension looming over his head.

He submitted the two supplements, raspberry-lemonade flavored NutraBio SuperCarb and Body Health strawberry-flavored amino acid blend, for testing. Reports have revealed that those two supplements tested positive for Ostarine.

In addition, King Ry’s legal team has asked for a reduced sentence of four months. This makes it impossible for Garcia to be available to fight in August.
