Kenny Porter on Kell Brook and Rematches

When it comes to former welterweight champion Shawn “Showtime” Porter (30-3-1, 17 KO’s), it’s an undeniable fact that he is a tough out for anyone. Due to his rough and tumble style, high work rate and iron chin, there are not many boxers very eager to face Showtime. So while it has often times been extremely hard to secure the fights that he wants, it has essentially remained an impossibility to get any rematches.

Of the three losses on his ledger, Porter was never blown out of the water in any of them. In fact, not only was he not outclassed in any of his losses, there is no shortage of boxing fans who believe and argue that he could have won all of those defeats. Being that the contests were so close in nature, and action-packed, it would seem only natural that rematches were fought. Nevertheless, this has not proven to be the case.

BROOK WANTS NO SMOKE!

When it comes to the notion of obtaining a do-over with Keith “One Time” Thurman (29-1, 22 KO’s) or WBC and IBF world welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (26-0, 21 KO’s), Kenny Porter does retain a fair measure of optimism. However, on the topic of Kell “The Special One” Brook (39-2, 27 KO’s), the seasoned chief second believes Brook will avoid that rematch as long as the sun is hot.

“Kell Brook will never fight Shawn Porter. Kell Brook doesn’t want to fight Shawn Porter, Kell Brook never mentioned Shawn Porter’s name since the day he fought him. Never mentions his name, there was never any interest in them fighting Shawn Porter. And if you go back and look at Kell Brooks record, you will see that after Kell Brook fought Shawn Porter, he fought three PBC fighters, but never fought Shawn Porter. So it wasn’t like they weren’t doing business, they were doing business.”

KEEP HOPE ALIVE!

And while it doesn’t require a grand leap of imagination, beyond Brook alone, Team Porter would delight in securing a rematch with any of the fighters that they took a loss too. Although, it doesn’t appear that either Porter will be sitting around holding their breath waiting on a rematch.
