Kenny Porter Talks Crawford Fight and Personal Wishlist
Within the welterweight division, one of the most consistently called-for prizefights would place WBC and IBF world welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (26-0, 21 KO’s) in against WBO world welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (36-0, 27 KO’s). Sadly, for many political reasons, this bout has not come to reality just yet. If not Spence however, the next most desired opponent for Bud is Shawn “Showtime” Porter (30-3-1, 17 KO’s). In regards this fight, the gears of production have been gummed up not by politics, but by friendship.
Bud and Showtime enjoy a long-amiable relationship that extends well back into their amateurs days. Each man has said that technically they are willing to go head-to-head with their long time chum, but the situation would have to be damn near perfect.
Just prior to the worldwide calamity brought on by COVID-19, Porter revealed to media members that he was going to sit down face to face with Crawford and see if they could put something together. Due to the collective world being placed on house punishment however, it appears as if those talks apparently never materialized.
SHOWTIME AND BUD CHRONICLES
Looking to achieve a greater amount of clarity on the situation, Kenny Porter was questioned on ThaBoxingVoice to see if any traction or progress had been made. Unfortunately, the savvy coach could offer no meat morsel of information.
“We had a sit down and we sat down for a good 35 to 45 minutes and that was one of the discussions on the table. He asked us if he could speak to Terence and of course we said, ‘yeah, why not?’ You can speak to him, but when it comes time to do the business, and handle things the way that they need to be handled, you’ve got to leave that to the people who get paid to do that. We haven’t revisited that with him, I don’t know if he pursued it. I don’t know if he spoke to him.”
THE WISHLIST
Like most fighters living in the topsy-turvy world that COVID-19 has created, no one really knows what is going to happen next. Therefore, while everyone is trying to remain optimistic, at the moment there just are not many certain answers about what is coming next. So while there is so much speculation in the air, Kenny Porter took the time to reveal his notion of what would be Shawn’s next three ideal opponents.
“In no particular order, and the reason that I say in no particular order is because with everything that is going on with the quarantine, we can’t really make no predictions. But then also, just what a wishlist looks like, or what we would love to have: Errol Spence, Manny Pacquiao, Keith Thurman. I would love to say that is something that can happen, but you know there really is no way that we can say that. But we definitely would welcome all three of those fights, in no particular order.”
Any of those bouts would make for fantastic action-packed prizefights. Let’s hope that we can hear one of them announced in the very near future.
