Shawn Porter Promises to Exploit Spence’s Southpaw Stance!
For many, one of the best upcoming matches of the year is Shawn “Showtime” Porter (30-2-1, 17 KO’s) versus Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (25-0, 21 KO’s). The rowdy welterweight bout will serve as a significant unification.
Porter will put up his WBC strap, while Spence will bring his IBF title to the table. For others, this tantalizing dust-up has ‘one-sided beat down’ written all over it. Of those who foresee a wash in the making, they generally reside on the Errol Spence side of the street.
Obviously, this viewpoint has somewhat begun to get under Porter’s skin. The WBC champ is well known for his calm and friendly demeanor when outside of the ring. Cut from a length of the Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto clothe, Showtime reserves his frightfully ferocious side for his altercations within the ring ropes.
However, in a recent interview conducted by Helen Yee, Porter gave many indications that he is growing tired of being shortchanged in people’s opinion and outlooks on the approaching fight. Sure, even Porter himself understands, and openly acknowledged, that his showdown with Spence will be a difficult night in the office. Yet, the Ohio native believes that he has the will, ability and game plan to convincingly defeat the Truth.
“All I have to do is recognize what you do well and what you don’t do well, and what I need to do to make you uncomfortable. And you will definitely see Errol Spence as uncomfortable as you will ever see him in the ring.”
The Tools for the Job
Outside of mere moxie and positive thinking, Porter earnestly trusts that he has already latched onto what he needs to do. While most in the boxing world view the southpaw stance as one of the trickiest styles to deal with, Showtime is salivating at his chance to use it to his benefit.
When speaking about this aspect of his game plan there was a clear, hard and irritable edge to the amenable FOX boxing hosts voice.
“For those of you who don’t understand out there, you’ll just have to wait until this fight jumps off. And when you see him uncomfortable, when you see things that worked for him before that don’t work anymore against me, then you’ll start to understand why!
“‘Okay Shawn Porter’s taking advantage of his southpaw stance and he’s not allowing Errol Spence to be comfortable and use his southpaw stance to an advantage.’”
Personally, this fight cannot arrive fast enough! On paper, this is one instant classic in the making due to the fighting styles and reputations of both men. Outside of the pure fighting aspect, the two contestants have a history dating back to the amateurs.
It’s a unification and the fight will help determine the true pecking order of the thick and competitive welterweight division. There is literally nothing not to love about this prizefight!
If we can keep these tempers flaring and comments testy, even the pre-fight shenanigans promise to be very memorable. In any case, 3kingsboxing will be sure to report on all the new developments and news surrounding this wildly intriguing fight.
