Shawn Porter on fighting Spence Jr next.
WBC welterweight champion Shawn Porter is ready to face undefeated IBF champion Errol Spence and is hoping to do so in the summer! Coming off a successful title defense against mandatory challenger Yordenis Ugas, the champion has been very vocal about this unification bout.
Porter went into depth about the fight and how important it is that he must take things to another level.
“When we finished up with Danny [Garcia], I was saying Errol Spence, Kieth Thurman and Manny Pacquiao. Ever since then, we’ve eliminated two of those names. We just want Errol Spence.
“I’m ready whenever they say go. I’m excited to fight Errol Spence, so that gives me the drive and motivation to say ‘yeah no other option.'”
He would also add when he expects the fight to happen and where.
“We are looking at summer time, right around August. We’re still kind of up in the air, but that’s how negotiations go. You don’t get everything all at once.”
“I’m definitely willing to go to Texas for that fight, nothing but love down there for me. I know it’ll be different getting into the ring. I also think being down there in ‘Jerry World’ is definitely something special.”
The welterweight titlist expressed that using more of a boxer’s style against Ugas only adds more to his game.
“I feel like I need everything to beat him. When you fight Errol Spence, you gotta be able to test his heart, mind and physicality as well.”
“We’re going to have to do things to make him think, and while he’s thinking, we need to do things to make him react; and while he’s reacting, we’re gonna have to do things to make him question himself.”
While the boxing community is waiting to see if and when a fight between Spence and Terence Crawford will be made, this is a fight that would intrigue fans in the meantime.
