Did Teofimo Lopez Duck Arnold Barboza? Regis Prograis Thinks So
A prominent accusation fighters dislike hearing from other fighters is that of ducking. There is beef brewing between two-time junior welterweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (28-1, 24KO) and former unified lightweight “The Takedown” Teofimo Lopez (17-1, 13KO).
DID TEOFIMO LOPEZ DUCK ARNOLD BARBOZA JR?
In a recent post on social media, Prograis dropped a bunch of names he believes Lopez can’t beat. Furthermore, he proposed the question of The Takeover avoiding top contender Arnold Barboza Jr (27-0, 10KO).
The irony to that statement is several fans believe that is the case. At the beginning of 2022, Barboza was mentioned as a possible opponent for a returning Lopez after losing to George Kambosos Jr.
“So, it’s either a title shot or him [Teofimo Lopez]. We’ll see what happens.”
TEOFIMO LOPEZ AND REGIS PROGRAIS COULD FIGHT IN 2023
Lopez showed no interest in fighting Barboza Jr and called the fight a waste of his time. The Californian, ranked #4 (WBO), #8 (WBC), and #12 (IBF), there are many in the boxing community that feel Barboza is a legit threat. Some fans have called this move a duck on the part of the former unified champion, which aligns with what Prograis is calling into question.
On December 10, Lopez is fighting Sandor Martin in a WBC title eliminator. Rougarou is currently in possession of the WBC’s belt. It will be interesting to see if these two settle things in the ring at some point in 2023.
