Jack Catterall Versus Regis Prograis Pushed Back Due to Injury
A pivotal matchup in the junior welterweight division is a contest between two-time 140-pound world champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (29-2, 24 KOs) and top contender Jack “El Gato” Catterall (29-1, 13 KOs). However, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the fight as an injured Catterall recuperates.
Scheduled to occur on August 24, 3kingsboxing.com has learned that the fight is postponed due to an injury suffered by Catterall in training. Upon hearing about Catterall’s injury, Rougarou posted the following message on social media:
Catterall is coming off what is arguably the most satisfying win of his career – a unanimous decision victory in his rematch over arch-rival Josh Taylor in May 2024. In his last outing, Prograis suffered a unanimous decision loss to Devin Haney in December 2023 and, in the process, lost the WBC junior welterweight title.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS FIGHT
With his slick southpaw boxing style and ring IQ, El Gato feels he is the uncrowned champion and the man to beat at 140. Prograis has been a mainstay at junior welterweight for several years. But the hard-hitting lefty is coming off a loss. At age 35, he’s no spring chicken. Rougarou is desperate to get back in the win column.
The importance of Catterall versus Prograis is simple. The winner moves closer to another world title shot and stays in the picture at junior welterweight. The loser moves perilously closer to possible journeyman status.
As of this writing, there’s no official word of when this fight will eventually take place. But word on the street is that efforts are underway to reschedule the fight for October.
