Regis Prograis v Juan Heraldez
Following three rounds of one-way action, Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (25-1, 21 KO’s) defeated Juan Heraldez (16-1-1, 10 KO’s) by TKO. The bout ended one year of inactivity for Prograis. The prizefight also marked the first time that he fought under the PBC banner.
The Rougarou only signed up for a one-fight deal but in all likelihood he will remain with the company for the foreseeable future. Although, it was not a good look that Prograis came in overweight.
Coming into the fight, Heraldez was an undefeated fighter promoted by Mayweather promotions. The unproven boxer was aiming to use this stage to catapult his career to the next level. Unfortunately, things did not unfold according this his script.
THIRD ROUND DESTRUCTION
For the first half of the opening round, Prograis laid back and allowed Heraldez to take the lead. The Californian did so by establishing a quick jab and utilizing movement. Yet, around the ninety second mark, the Rougarou started scoring well and frequently with heavy left hands. Those lefts came in the form of straights down the middle and hooks to the head and body.
Prograis leisurely maintained control until the third round. Right at the top of the period, he caught Heraldez flush on the jaw with a crunching left hook. The undefeated fighter went down hard and got up on jelly legs. With more than two minutes to survive, the Rougarou jumped on him and buried him in an avalanche of punches. Unable to defend himself, or return fire, referee Rafael Ramos was forced to jump in and halt the action.
