Regis Prograis V Lewis Ritson Anyone?
Former WBA junior welterweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (24-1, 20KOs) is eager to get back in the ring after suffering his first career defeat in his WBSS (World Boxing Super Series) finale and unification bout against Josh Taylor last October.
PLANNED RETRUN FIGHT SCRAPPED DUE TO COVID-19
Originally set to square off with fellow former junior welterweight champion Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (27-1-3, 18KO) on April 17, that fight fell by the wayside once the COVID-19 pandemic started to sweep throughout the United States.
STILL IN LIMBO
Boxing is slowly starting to return with fights starting to get made for June and July. So, what does that mean for Prograis? If the Hooker fight isn’t rescheduled, where does that leave him?
A RETURN TO THE U.K?
In an interview with Sky Sports boxing, the former champion states that he’s extremely excited about returning to the place he suffered disappointment for the first time as a professional fighter against another rising junior welterweight UK fighter Lewis “Sandman” Ritson (20-1, 12KOs).
“That’s like a perfect fight for me to come back to the UK. I would absolutely love that fight. You know, it doesn’t matter if it’s Hooker next, if it’s Lewis Ritson next, it makes sense for me.
“I definitely would come back to the U.K, I know he has a big crowd over there, and I kinda have a popular name in the UK now. So if Eddie can make that fight happen, I’ll be down for it to come back to the UK. To have two fights in the UK back to back sounds good to me.”
Both Prograis and Ritson have fan-friendly styles that have the potential to produce fireworks.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they come available.
