Rakhimov Wins; Remains IBO Champ

Shavkat Rakhimov

Rakhimov retains his IBO title

3kingsboxingpreviously reported on a Super-Featherweight contest between IBO Champion Shavkat Rakhimov (13-0, 10 KOs) and Robinson Castellanos (24-13, 14 KOs).

As the IBF rated #9, the young champion was looking to avoid an upset courtesy of Castellanos. From the opening bell it was clear how much more skillful the young champion was.

The 24 year old Russian fighter used his height and reach effectively; never losing focus and managing to drop the veteran Mexican fighter in the first round.

In the beginning of the second round, young southpaw wasted no time reengaging his opponent. A barrage of punches ensued from the champion. After dropping Castellanos for the third time, the ref had to step in and stop the contest.

In summary, Castellanos was overwhelmed by a younger, fresher opponent and could never gain any momentum.

Rakhimov retains his IBO title and, consequently, may see himself move up in the rankings. In an already stacked division, this victory sets up bigger challenges down the road.
