Cardenas Inches Closer To A Title Shot After Stopping Ramirez
In a super bantamweight showdown, Ramon “Dinamita” Cardenas (25-1, 13KO) destroyed Eduardo Ramirez with a vicious body shot.
Both showed off their skills by setting traps and countering with big, hard shots. Ramirez looked sharp landing that overhand right and went to the body early. He continued to mix up the attack and found success for more right hands.
After receiving a tongue lashing from his trainer, Joel Diaz, Cardenas picked up the pace and found a home for those right hands. He even adjusted to the Mexican’s attack style by taking a step back before landing some left hooks.
Dinamita didn’t fight with that same sense of urgency that his corner was yelling at him to do. He was landing hard shots and had his opponent on the backfoot but this wasn’t his usual take-charge type of performance.
Before the start of round nine, Diaz told his fighter to get it together and knock out Ramirez. Tired of being on the receiving end of a thorough tongue-lashing, the Texan went to work and started throwing combinations.
Then he landed a debilitating hook to the body that took the life out of Ramirez, who never recovered and was counted out. Ranked #4 (WBA) and #10 (WBO, IBF), Cardenas continues to march towards a world title shot.
