Raymond Ford Looks To Fight Cordina & Other Champs At 130!
Newly crowned WBA featherweight champion Raymond “Savage” Ford (15-0-1. 8 KO’s) defeated Otabek Kholmatov in very clutch fashion. After battling the Uzbek tooth and nail for twelve rounds, Ford scored a Hollywood-type last minute TKO stoppage. This spoils of victory granted Ford championship status for the first time. Now it seems, he has his sights set on a move to junior lightweight and has mentioned IBF champ Joe Cordina!
GOING UP!
Naturally, focus turned to who will Ford will dance with next? Rather than wanting to face fellow champions at featherweight, Savage may have thrown many folks a curve-ball by announcing that he was moving up in weight.
“I go up in weight! I’m still signed with Matchroom, we got Joe Cordina [IBF] over here, he’s a good world champion. I feel like that is a good fight that we can make, it’s other 130 champions up there that we can get in there with.
“O’Shaquie Foster [WBC], Lamont Roach [WBA], that is my guy but you know, it’s business at the end of the day. Who else is up there [Emanuel] Navarette [WBO], I know he is moving up but it don’t matter, I can go up there and compete with anybody.”
Ford attributed his decision to move up to his increasing difficulty making the weight. In fact, he said his performance versus Kholmatov was impaired by an adverse weight cut in his camp. It will be interesting to see who the newly crowned champion will dance with next. As he mentioned, the fight with Cordina would seem the most plausible one to make!
