Regis Prograis Calls Jose Ramirez A Duck Over Liam Paro WBO Eliminator
As 3kingsboxing.com previously reported, the WBO has officially ordered the world title eliminator between highly ranked junior welterweight contenders Liam Paro (23-0, 14 KOs) and former unified champion Jose Ramirez (28-1, 18 KOs). One fighter who decided to opine on the WBO’s decision is reigning WBC champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (28-1, 24 KOs). The WBC champion is incensed by the ordered matchup and made it a point to throw verbal shots at Ramirez on social media.
WHAT HAS PROGRAIS PERPLEXED?
There’s been a running feud between Prograis and Ramirez. Rougarou has wanted to face Ramirez for several years but has never been able to land a fight with him.
The WBC ordered them to fight in July 2022 for the then-vacant WBC junior welterweight title. Ramirez turned it down because the timeline conflicted with his upcoming wedding. There was a second chance to put them in the ring in December 2022. Again, Ramirez said no. On that occasion, he balked at the money he would have received from the purse split.
In all fairness, there is no guarantee that Paro vs Ramirez will occur. Ramirez has become a financial diva and would have no problem turning down the fight if the money is not up to his standards.
But if he takes the fight, it would be a head-scratching decision. Why would he fight with Paro for a title eliminator after twice turning down a world title fight against Prograis? On the surface, it would make no sense, whatsoever. One can understand why he is upset and puzzled. More than a few boxing fans echo his sentiments and outrage.
