Richard Torrez Jr Gets The Win As Joey Dawejko Got DQ’d
In a step-up fight, heavyweight prospect Richard Torrez (11-0, 10KO) got the win as Joey “Tank” Dawejko (28-12-4, 16KO) was disqualified.
Torrez fought in a well-controlled manner, proving he’s not just a one-dimensional fighter. The 2020 Olympic silver medalist used the jab, footwork, and feints to take control of the fight.
Fighting like a buzzsaw machine, the Californian began hitting Tank with ease. Feeling the effects of those hard shots, Dawejko kept losing his mouthpiece. The referee threatened to disqualify Dawejko for repeatedly losing the mouthpiece after taking away a point.
Torrez poured on the offense by landing uppercuts as his opponent was beginning to wilt. He started going to body with regularity which put Dawejko in survival mode.
In round five, both men traded hard shots. Torrez’s chin was getting tested, as he landed another punishing uppercut. Seeing Dawejko wobble a little, he landed another hard shot that caused his opponent’s mouthpiece to drop again.
Staying true to his word the referee disqualified Dawejko. This was a solid performance as Torrez showed several new wrinkles in his game.
