Lerrone Richards Thinks a Caleb Plant Fight Makes Sense Next!

In his last battle, on December 18, 2021, Lerrone “Sniper the Boss” Richards (16-0, 3 KO’s) proved to himself that he was undoubtedly a top fighter on the world level. On that date, Richards took on and defeated Carlos Gongora by way of split decision. With the win, along with a surge of new confidence, Sniper took possession of the IBO super middleweight title. Owning both the experience and the hardware, Richards is all too happy with his current status in the game.

“I knew what he brought to the table, southpaw, he could punch. So, I went into the fight knowing fully well that I was in there in a tough fight. But I knew that my skill set and my ability would take me through it and so it did!”

“Do you know what, I feel like I’ve gate-crashed the world scene! No one thought I would get there so quick. Obviously, now I am top ten in the Ring magazine, I’m in line for some big fights. Now all the world level fighters, contenders know exactly who Lerrone Richards is and I can’t wait to be in the mix.”

ON YOUR LEVEL

With his recent elevation in the division, Richards is definitely setting his sights high. One such name that he feels is very doable is former super middleweight champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (21-1, 12 KO’s).

“There are some good fighters out there like Fedor Chudinov, that’s a good fight. Caleb Plant, he is another one. Anthony Dirrell, there’s some good fights out there for me. And I am in a position now to call these fights and I got the best promoter in the business that can make these fights happen.”

“I think beating Carlos Gongora puts me in that bracket as a world class fighter because I see there’s ‘world class’ and ‘elite.’ I’m not elite yet, I’ve still got a long way to go, a long way to go with experience. But right now I am world class and guys like Caleb Plant, we’re in the same bracket. So, these fights can be made.”

AIM HIGH

A bout with Richards may not be so far-fetched for Plant. The Tennessee native is fresh off his first professional loss at the hands of undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. With the defeat, Sweethands was strong-armed for his IBF 168-pound title. During the contest however, Plant more than held his own and proved that he is an elite level talent.

Given his success with the redhead, there is little doubt that Plant would be the favorite in with Richards. The bout with Sniper the Boss could even provide Sweethands the chance to take a fight overseas and expand his fanbase a bit. Obviously these are all selling points for Team Plant, yet there is no reason to believe that Richards wouldn’t use them to bait his own trap to secure the fight. Only time will tell how it shakes out ultimately, but either way, it’s very clear that Lerrone Richards is looking for the bigger fights now.
