Richardson Hitchins Wants to Make Lemos Earn his Respect

With the chance to compete for a title, junior welterweight Richardson Hitchins (17-0, 7KO) doesn’t view Gustavo “El Electrico” Lemos (29-0, 19KO) as much of a threat. In addition, he has no respect for the Argentinian’s resume.

On April 6, Hitchins and El Electrico will battle for the right to face IBF champion Subriel Matias in a title eliminator. As the fight date edges closer, the Brooklyn fighter’s confidence increases. Furthermore, he is coming off a dominating performance against multiple-time title challenger Jose Zepeda.

NO RESPECT FOR HIS OPPONENT

Despite his opponent having an undefeated record, Hitchins was far from impressed and attacked Lemos for having a soft record, while speaking with Matchroom Boxing.

“This fight is for the IBF eliminator to secure a spot for a world title opportunity . . . This guy, he’s going to realize when he gets in there, he’s in there with a whole different caliber of fighter . . . This guy, I don’t respect his record, I don’t respect who he fought. I don’t respect anything he’s done in boxing. I got to show him that he’s out of his league in this fight.”

Lemos is unknown to the boxing community due in large part that he has never fought outside his country. His fight against Hitchins will be the first time the Argentinian has traveled. Furthermore, he defeated one recognized name in former featherweight champion Lee Selby in 2022. It’s worth mentioning that Selby is far removed from the fighter that once was a world champion.

The undefeated American is a super-talented fighter who fights extremely well behind the jab and is defensively sound. A fighter should never be dismissive of their opponent, yet Hitchins seems ready to back up his words.
