Guillermo Rigondeaux Injured in Devastating Cooking Accident!

Two-division world champion Guillermo “El Chacal” Rigondeaux (20-3, 13KOs) has reportedly suffered serious eye injuries in a freak home cooking accident. According to his manager, Alex Bornote, Rigondeaux suffered the injuries when his pressure cooker exploded in his face while he was at home cooking.

His manager also revealed that Rigondeaux, as of now, only has about 20 percent of his vision. This casts major doubt on whether he’ll be able to return to the ring again or not. Rigondeaux last fought on February 26, losing a controversial unanimous decision to Vincent Astrolabio.

His manager told El Nuveo Herald the following:

“It’s really unfortunate. When the pot exploded and we saw how Rigondeaux had turned out, we thought the worst, because the face and eyes looked very bad as a result of the impact of the explosion. But we hope he recovers.”

Bornote also revealed that prior to the incident, they were already in the process of securing Rigondeaux’s next fight.

“In any case, this is a hard blow for Rigondeaux, because we were already working on an upcoming fight. The important thing now is that he fully recovers his vision, and we will make a determination about his future later.”

At this time, there’s no concrete diagnosis. Further tests are expected to be conducted. We here at 3Kings Boxing would like to extend our well wishes to Guillermo Rigondeaux and hope for a full recovery.
