Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Liborio Solis in Play for December!
Its been two years since the most embarrassing momentof Guillermo Rigondeaux’s career when he quit against Vasyl Lomachenko. In that fight, he was essentially shut out for six rounds. Then, before starting round seven, he pulled the ultimate “no-no” as a professional fighter and quit on his stool.
However, he’s on the cusp becoming a champion again. The former unified super bantamweight champion is riding a two-fight win streak with his most recent victory coming back on June 23 when he defeated Julio Ceja by unanimous decision.
Now he has a chance to redeem himself and reclaim status as a champion. To do so, he’ll have to go through Liborio Solis (30-5-1, 14KOs), a former WBA super flyweight champion. The fight will be for the vacant WBA regular super bantamweight title.
Solis is a solid contender who is known for his two controversial match-ups with former WBA bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell.
December 7 is the target for the fight. With Rigondeaux now signed with PBC, it’s possible the fight could take place on the under-card of WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo vs Dennis Hogan.
