Former P4P entrant says no to bantamweight tournament
3kingsboxing.comhas learned that former WBA super bantamweight Champion Guillermo Rigondeaux that’s right you read it correctly Guillermo Rigondeaux, has turned down an invitation to be a participant in the upcoming WBSS bantamweight tournament.
According to his manager he was advised by his doctors that it would not be a good choice. He has spent all but his last fight at the super bantamweight limit and below.
This would’ve been a golden opportunity for him to regain some respect from fans who felt he pulled the ultimate no-no, when it appeared he quit in the sixth round of his fight with Vasyl Lomachenko in December.
While he wouldn’t have been a shoe in favorite to win the tournament he definitely would’ve been one of the favorites along with Zolani Tete and ultra talented Naoya Inoue who is said to be close to finalizing an agreement to participate.
I’m not one to speculate but maybe, just maybe, we’ve seen the last of Guillermo Rigondeaux.
