Robert Easter Jr Confident That He Is The Man To Beat At 135lbs

Easter Jr: “I’m ready to go after Mikey Garcia and Jorge Linares”

IBF Lightweight world champion Robert Easter continues to prepare for his battle against former champion Javier Fortuna this Saturday, January 20th, live on Showtime Barclays Center in Brooklyn with bigger goals in sight.

Easter knows he better focus on the opponent in front of him but it’s hard for one not to look forward to a possible unification bout with either Mikey Garcia or Jorge Linares.

While working out for the media on Wednesday Easter took the opportunity to make his prediction on this fight.

“The fans can expect to see what they always see in my fights,” said Easter. “It’s going to be hard work, blood, sweat and tears. We are going to have a knockout victory in this fight. Every fight is a big fight for me. Javier Fortuna is no stranger to this stage. He’s trying to get back to where I am, and the only thing that can stop him is me. Come Saturday night, he’s going to come up short. I’ve fought big punchers before. This is nothing new to me. We’re going to make adjustments during the fight and get him out of there early. Don’t think that my skinny frame and long arms don’t have power in them. You will see that on display Saturday night.”

Easter is well aware of the fact that both Linares, [next Saturday on the 27th], and Garcia [February 10th fight with Sergey Lipinets postponed to likely in March], are in action right around the same time as him.

“A lot of guys are trying to prove they’re the best at the weight. Each fight for me is a preparation for unification bouts down the line. That’s what I really want. I’m 100 percent focused on this fight Saturday. Javier Fortuna is all that I’m thinking about. After that, I’m ready to go after Mikey Garcia and Jorge Linares!”

Hopefully after these guys get their respective “stay busy” fights out of the way, we can get some solid answers to the question of just who is the man to beat at 135lbs. One thing is certain Robert Easter Jr is confident he already knows the answer to that question.
