Rolly Romero Short-circuits Talks of Fighting Regis Prograis Next
WBA Regular junior welterweight champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero (15-1, 13KO) promptly dismissed the idea of facing two-time divisional champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (29-2, 24KO).
The boxing community is still in amazement after witnessing two-divisional champion Devin Haney pitch a shutout against Prograis. It didn’t take long for social media to ignite with comments from other fighters about the match.
Romero has a history of discord with Prograis and wasted no time in putting those Twitter fingers to work. Having witnessed the two-time champion get dropped and hurt a few times, Romero believes that is the reason they never faced off.
“Now we know why Prograis didn’t want to fight me. He don’t wanna get cracked.”
THE CHAMPION IS NOT INTERESTED THE FIGHT
This statement is a response to Rougarou’s claim that the WBA champion is not a good fighter, following Romero’s gift stoppage against 40-year-old Ismael Barroso on May 13. He was not alone, as several fans within the boxing community view the WBA champion as the weakest link in the division.
Prograis wasn’t going to let that slide and expressed a desire to fight the Rolly, who quickly rejected the idea with a mic-dropping response.
“I’ll fight him NEXT. I’ll be a 3x champion next year.”

“I don’t do tune-ups.”
Rolando Romero
In boxing, styles make fights. Regardless of how Prograis looked in the last fight, Rolly is nowhere near a fighter of Haney’s caliber. This is not an uncommon rhetoric for the WBA champion. He recently stated that top contender “King” Ryan Garcia doesn’t deserve a shot at the title.
The junior welterweight division has quickly turned into one of the hottest divisions in boxing. Like it or not, Romero is in the thick of it all.
