Danny Roman vs TJ Doheny to unify titles at super bantamweight live on DAZN!

Much of the attention from boxing fans tomorrow will be focused on the Srisaket Sor Rungvisai vs Juan Francisco Estrada rematch going down in Inglewood. A low-key fight that’s happening on the under-card warranting more attention is the Super Bantamweight unification bout between WBA champion Daniel Roman and IBF champion TJ Doheny, which could steal the show!

Since 3KingsBoxing is on top of everything boxing, we’re here to give a preview and prediction of this much slept-on fight!

Daniel Roman (26-2, 10KO)

Age: 28
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Daniel Roman is a working man’s fighter who always leaves it in the ring and comes to fight. An aggressive fighter, the WBA champion likes to fight at mid-range behind a very consistent jab; chopping down fighters with very accurate head and body shots. Very adept at the subtle nuances in the sport, the Los Angeles product is the type of fighter who doesn’t do one thing that is outstanding, however, is very good at all aspects of the sport.

While not a puncher, Roman wears guys down with his consistency, outstanding condition, and high-volume punching.

Keys to Victory

Roman must find a way cut the ring off against an opponent who has very quick feet. He also must get the jab going. If he can find a way to get inside on the IBF champion, he needs to stay there and pound away at the body.

Doheny is not the greatest inside fighter in the world, plus he has very tender skin and cuts easily. Roman is fighting essentially in his backyard. Use the cheers of the home crowd and fight with passion and urgency; make this a war.

TJ Doheny (21-0, 15KO)

Age: 32
Location: Bondi Junction, New South Wales, Australia

Doheny is a newcomer to the international boxing scene and a relative unknown even among hardcore boxing fans. The Irish-born fighter who now resides in Australia. While he can fight on the front foot when necessary, he’s at best boxing and forcing his opponent to come to him so he can utilize counter-punching.

Having won the IBF belt in Japan, while also having fought in Thailand and in the U.S. previously, Doheny knows what it takes to win on the road. He will not be intimidated fighting in Roman’s backyard.

Keys to Victory

Make this a boxing match as much as possible and keep the fight at a slow pace. Doheny must keep this fight on the outside and utilize his advantages in hand and foot speed. It would also be nice if he is able to get Roman’s respect by getting his attention early and win the early rounds. If he is able to decisively control the action and make this a boring fight, he stands an excellent chance of winning.

Prediction

This fight is a clash of styles and can go two ways. Either Roman makes this a blood and guts battle of attrition, or Doheny will win using his speed to make Roman look silly. I figure the fight will be more of an exciting fight. The skills of the WBA champion are a bit underrated. Also, in spite of looking flashy at times, TJ Doheny can be hit.

Because he has a fighter’s spirit, Doheny will be seduced into a fight. The IBF’s champion’s biggest weakness are his tender skin and lack of an inside game. Doheny will win the early rounds, but inspired by fighting on home turf, the WBA will come on and find a way to get to his opponent. This fight will go the distance. The undefeated Irish-Australian will land his fair share of shots, but it will not be enough. Daniel Roman is consistent, relentless and will do just enough to win by close decision.
