Miguel Roman will fight even though he was discovered to have gloves with padding removed
Ahead of his main event prizefight, veteran super featherweight Miguel “Mickey” Roman (62-13, 47 KO’s) finds himself steeped in controversy. The day before Mickey’s fight with O’Shaquie “Ice Water” Foster (17-2, 10 KO’s), Foster’s head trainer, Bobby Benton, discovered that his gloves had been tampered with. Fosters manager, Keith Mills, stated that there was “no padding in the center.”
Once the potentially deadly irregularity was discovered it was reported to the California State Athletic Commission. They immediately threw the gloves out. Despite the highly controversial nature of the situation, the main event bout will proceed as scheduled on NBC Sports Network’s Ring City USA series. News of this potentially catastrophic violation was first broken on the Jonathan Leir’s Ring Walk Podcast.
At the moment it is unknown if there will be any repercussions for Miguel Roman in the aftermath of this ordeal.
