Davis, Garcia, Haney, and De La Hoya clap back at Rolly Romero
Newly crowned Interim WBA lightweight titleholder Rolando “Rolly” Romero (12-0, 10ko) is getting some backlash for his controversial victory.
The 24-year-old Las Vegas boxer was heavily tested by unknown Dominican opponent Jackson “El Fenix” Marinez (19-1, 7ko). Several boxing enthusiasts and others inside the boxing community felt “Rolly” was about to suffer his first career defeat. However, the judges gave him a favorable decision.
Marinez, unfortunately, became another victim of boxing’s business side.
SOCIAL MEDIA CALL-OUTS
The Interim champion has been trying to make noise in the division, calling out some of the more known names. The Marinez fight was supposed to be a fight to put the top guys on notice.
Romero has been on social media attempt to attract a big name. He dropped an old sparring video where he was getting the best of Golden Boy Promotions’ Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (20-0, 17ko).
“Rolly” would later decid to shift focus and go after fellow stablemate WBA “regular” champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (23-0, 22ko). The Interim titleholder claimed the Baltimore power puncher would run after feeling his power.
THE CLAP-BACKS
Well, everyone knows that social media is undefeated. The energy you send out returns tenfold and will be even more brutal. The WBA ‘regular’ champion and KingRy clapped back with some amusing posts.
WBC champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15ko) joined in on the fun also, tweeting “Bank robbery”. However, the sickest burn was from Golden Boy Promotions top brass Oscar De La Hoya.
The Interim champion needs to do something to make up for the travesty that took place on August 15, 2020.
