Keyshawn Davis Rules Out Fights Against Shakur Stevenson & Troy Isley

On numerous occasions, WBO and WBC super featherweight champion “Fearless” Shakur Stevenson (18-0, 9 KO’s) has stated his willingness to fight all top competition. If it is a matter of proving his greatness, he is willing to lace up the gloves and go toe-to-toe with anyone whether they are friend or foe. This same sentiment was not echoed by lightweight prospect Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (5-0, 4 KO’s).

Fearless’s body of work already speaks to this. Stevenson has already lumped up long-time boxing buddy Jamel Herring and out-boxed and embarrassed his fiancés brother in Joet Gonzalez. The unified champion is even on record for saying he would rumble with his near-lifelong friend undisputed champion Devin Haney, despite feeling like family.

Since turning pro in 2021, the Davis has fought frequently and stopped four of his five adversaries. While he is on a mission to prove that he is the real deal, The Businessman does harbor reservations about certain fights that he wouldn’t accept. During a recent interview with Fight Hype, the Olympic Silver medalist outlined some of the professional lines that he was not personally willing to cross. While he did not tote a long list of “untouchables,” he made it blatantly clear that Stevenson was at the top of that list.

“With some of my peers, I would say mostly likely sure, with my peers. But my brothers like Troy Isley, Shakur Stevenson, and a handful of people that I am definitely missing. But those top two right there, Troy Isley and Shakur Stevenson, I would never fight, ever! Sorry to say fans, but it wont ever happen.”

MY BROTHER’S KEEPER

To give a bit more perspective on why he felt this way, Davis offered the following:

“When we in the ring, we think about not necessarily killing someone, but really hurting them and we turn into different people when we get in that ring. We are thinking about anything else but hurting that dude. So I don’t want to be thinking about that toward my brother. That killer instinct, you don’t want to kill your brother.”

While The Businessman did not get into specifics about who he would be fighting next, he was at least open about when his next dustup would take place.

“I’m going to be back in September and I am up for the challenge.”
