Rolando Romero Talks on his Experience Moving to Pay-Per-View Main Event

Without question, lightweight fighter Rolando “Rolly” Romero (14-0, 12 KO’s) is solely focused on facing Regular WBA 135-pound champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (26-0, 24 KO’s). It’s widely known that the two were slated to face one another before Romero’s outside-the-ring legal issues got him booted from the card. Now that his issues are rectified, Rolly is free to move on professionally.

It does make sense the #1 (WBA) ranked fighter would want to press for a title shot. In fact, this would be his first attempt at a world title, albeit a secondary title. Truthfully speaking though, Romero holds it as a feather in his cap that he is progressing so rapidly as a professional fighter.

“You are talking to a dude that literally skipped from six rounds to twelve rounds; like, literally skipped from everything just to fight on pay-per-view! My entire life literally was different, literally from filming the All Access to doing all this stuff. It’s all a big change, it’s not like a normal fight… I literally skipped to this, this is my first main event!”

FIRST TIME HICCUPS

As he progresses through his evolution, Rolly is fondly earmarking his own personal milestones. For example, even though the prizefight never took place, Romero acknowledges that the presser with Davis was the first one that he’s ever headlined a prizefight. And like all things, when trying something new, there are bound to be mistakes made.

“I’m going to be honest with you […] I am over there and they tell me to just be myself. I’m like, okay, I’ve never watched a press conference in my life because they are so boring, right? […] But when I walked up to the podium, I fucking walked up there and was like, ‘Wait a minute, I’ve never done a press conference before! I don’t know what the fuck to say!’

I was like, ‘what am I supposed to fucking do?!’ Then I see all these mothafuckers, they all have notepads with what they were saying and shit! That’s why when I first went up there it was a little awkward, but now I know what a press conference is like.”

BAD JUJU!

Aside from experiencing a few growing pains during the presser, a slightly superstitious Rolly feels as though he fell victim to a bit of bad mojo as well!

“I ain’t going to lie, ever since I wore that fur coat, my life has been going downhill! That shit had demons in it!”

Now, we can see if Tank is willing to roll the dice on a Rolly fight one more time. And if he does choose to, it should be a much smoother and more memorable event. Let’s just hope that if they do square-off that Romero keeps his fur coat in the closet!
