Rolly Trashes Tank While Acknowledging the Fight Will Likely Happen
Since putting his recent legal woes behind him, lightweight contender Rolando “Rolly” Romero (14-0, 12 KO’s) has willfully succumbed to acute tunnel vision. In his world right now, there is nothing that he can see past Regular WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (26-0, 24 KO’s). The two pugilists had agreed to fight, signed their contracts and even conducted a formal presser before Romero’s out-of-the-ring troubles killed the match.
With no restriction on his ability to maneuver through the boxing world, Rolly can’t envision much preventing the duel with Davis from taking place now. In fact, the cocksure bruiser would even go so far as to tell Fight Hype that Tank has no other opponents that would be as lucrative as himself.
“Gervonta is going to take his fight because he doesn’t have another option! Because, who the fuck else is he going to fucking sell a pay-per-view with, one? And two, I’m the fucking mandatory!”
SHOW AND PROVE
Obviously, Romero coming to the conclusion that he is the only financially solvent option for Tank is the height of nonsense. Davis is a wildly popular fighter whose biggest knock is that he doesn’t select the top tier opponents that fans desire to see him dance with. He could easily square-up with fellow 135-pound champions Devin Haney (WBC) or George Kambosos (WBA Super, WBO and IBF) for bigger events.
There was even sustained talk in the industry about him facing welterweight Keith Thurman. It’s hard to believe that a fight with Rolly would eclipse any of those three bouts, yet stranger things have happened. If all other business logic fails though, Romero is not above attempting to shame Tank into a dustup.
“It doesn’t make sense for him to fight anyone else and if he pusses out, it just shows he’s a bitch!”
Underneath all the tough talk though, Rolly is confident that Davis will face him in the ring.
“I don’t think he’s a bitch! I don’t think he is going to bitch out, I really don’t think so.”
NO LOVE HERE
Two of the biggest selling points about Rolly are his radically unpredictable behavior and verbal declarations. So it should be no surprise that just as soon as Romero extended a bit of praise toward Tank, he immediately took shots at him!
“It’s just like I said, he feels inferior to me. It’s as simple as that, he feels inferior to me! And I ain’t talking about in boxing, outside of everything. I’m better looking than him, I’m stronger than him, I’m smarter than him, like he is a fucking dumbass. He’s literally a fucking dumbass!”
With all his bluster put to the side, one real gold nugget that Rolly is holding onto is the fact that he is still Davis’s WBA mandatory challenger. Therefore, like him or not, Romero is likely a fighter that Tank will have to deal with. The only question is, will it be sooner or later?
