“Its going to be hard, hard night for Lopez”

On December 14, IBF world lightweight champion Richard “RC” Commey (29-2, 26 KO’s) will defend his title against Teofimo “El Brooklyn” Lopez (14-0, 11 KO’s). The two will stage their televised duel on the Terence Crawford vs Egidijus Kavaliauskas undercard, airing live on ESPN.

Under the hot lights of Madison Square Garden, the world will see if Lopez has what it takes to strong-arm Commey for his belt. Will the brash young upstart stand victorious, or will the proud Ghanaian champion successfully maintain his dominance and add Lopez’s scalp to his growing collection? Commey’s chief second Andre Rozier believes it’ll be the latter.

“Camp is always fantastic with Richard, Richard is one of the best young men to have in camp any time! He doesn’t tell you no, he doesn’t give you any headaches, he doesn’t give you any attitude. He’s not a prima donna and that’s why I love him.” ~Andre Rozier, Richard Commey chief second

UNLEASHING THE MONSTER

This camp in preparation for Teofimo Lopez will stand as the fifth fight that Rozier and Commey have collaborated. From the very first time that that they hooked up, for RC’s bout with Alejandro Luna, their pairing felt natural and comfortable. With each subsequent assignment they have only fell more into sync with one another.

Come December 14, Rozier is confident he’ll be setting loose a monster in the ring.

“And now he has to face Richard, Richard is going to be an incredible mountain to climb. He has power in either hand. He’s vicious when he gets started and his attack modus operadi is getting better and better. It’s going to be a hard, hard night for Lopez.” ~Andre Rozier, Richard Commey chief second

It will be interesting to see if on fight night Rozier’s premonitions of dominance materialize. Regardless of who is the better man that evening, it’s hard to foresee a bout that is not rife with action. Both men are extremely heavy-handed and not shy about finishing a wounded or outgunned opponent. You never truly will know what will transpire in the ring. However, this about as close to a guaranteed firefight as you’re going to get.
