Andy Ruiz’ father already has plans beyond the Joshua rematch in order!

While newly crowned unified heavyweight champion of the world Andy Ruiz arrived in Mexico to celebrate his recent victory, his father Andres Ruiz was already looking ahead to the future.

Ruiz was showered with praise and admiration as he arrived in Mexico to be honored by the Mexican Government for his dominant performance over Anthony Joshua on June 1. While that was taking place, his father was telling media sources they were gunning for complete divisional supremacy which means wrestling away the WBC title from heavyweight knockout machine Deontay Wilder.

Andres spoke on how they were able to go out and get 3 of the 4 major titles in the division in a fight that nobody gave them a chance in and now they just need 1 more. He didn’t mince words as he made it very clear he believes they will “destroy Wilder”.

A fight between these two on paper wouldn’t be hard to make. Both fight under the PBC banner and are advised by Al Haymon. With that said there are still obstacles. Ruiz is obligated to give an immediate rematch to the man he defeated to become champion, Anthony Joshua.

That bout is tentatively scheduled for November or December of this year. Wilder on the other hand has a rematch with divisional rival Luis Ortiz scheduled around the same time. In addition, he is expected to rematch his rival Tyson Fury in early 2020 and according to Top Rank head Bob Arum, there may be a trilogy that year.

Assuming both men make it through their respective obstacles, a fight between them is a no brainer, but as Andy showed us just by winning the belts there’s no such thing as a “sure thing” in heavyweight boxing. A fight between Wilder and Ruiz would be a mouth watering affair that all boxing fans could enjoy.
