Andy Ruiz becomes the first Mexican heavyweight champion in boxing history!
In a huge upset Andy Ruiz just spoiled Anthony Joshua’s American debut and killed any chance of a Joshua vs Wilder undisputed title fight!
After a slow couple of rounds where the taller Joshua utilized his reach advantage and jab to dictate the pace, things started to heat up!
After a hard left hook from Joshua put ruiz down, the underdog managed to make it to his feet where he was met by the champion who was looking for the finish.
Ruiz, however, kept himself composed and was able to return the favor dropping Joshua with a right hand to the temple. A hurt Joshua would get up but meet the same fate in the waning seconds of round three as he was dropped again!
Sensing a change in momentum Ruiz kept himself composed and continued to rip the former champion to the head with hard left hooks and right hands.
Fast forward to round six where Joshua still seemed very fatigued, Ruiz sensing that, went to the body with no mercy, further pushing Joshua to the brink of defeat.
Then round seven came! Another knockdown was scored for Ruiz who by this moment knew victory was within his reach.
A tired and hurt Joshua rose from the canvas but would get dropped again this time spitting out his mouthpiece.
After being asked by the referee several times did he want to continue with no response, the ref waived the fight off!
And just like that we have a new unified heavyweight champion and his name is Andy Ruiz.
