Ruiz v Usyk in 2020?
Unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz took questions following his open workout as he continues preparation for his upcoming rematch with Anthony Joshua on December 7 in Saudi Arabia.
He was specifically asked his thoughts on heavyweight new comer Oleksandr Usyk. Usyk made his long anticipated debut with a seventh round stoppage over fringe contender Chazz Whitherspoon on October 12.
“We have Usyk for the WBO you know he’s a great fighter. I didn’t think he looked too good for his first fight. He’s a great fighter, he’s a great boxer. That’s what he is but, after we win on December 7, of course we’ll give him an opportunity to take one of my belts.”
“I don’t think he carried his power too much for somebody who hasn’t fought in so long. I’m not trying to not give credit to the guy he fought, I think he could’ve done a lot better you know. I don’t know, that’s just my opinion.”
From the comments made by Ruiz, while he respects Usyk as a tremendous boxer, he doesn’t seem to be concerned with the power, or lack thereof, from the former undisputed cruiserweight champion.
If Ruiz gets by Joshua in their December 7 rematch, we may just find out how both guys deal with each other in a 2020 showdown, as Usyk is the WBO mandatory.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
