Errol Spence May Be Leaving Welterweight With Keith Thurman Bout At 154lbs!

Recent news concerning unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr’s (28-0, 22KO) pits his next fight with former unified champion Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman (30-1, 22KO). Additionally, according to ESPN, the bout will be at junior middleweight limit (154lbs) and targeted for April!

THE SANCTIONING BODIES CLEARED THE PATH FOR THIS FIGHT

It’s no secret that Spence and Thurman were going to fight. This has been expected since the highly anticipated undisputed bout with WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford fell apart in 2022. Afterwards, the WBA granted team Spence special permission to face Thurman. Upon learning undisputed was no longer in play, the WBC came knocking by ordering the match-up.

The fact they are fighting at junior middleweight will be the biggest topic within boxing communities. “How will this effect the undisputed bout at welterweight?” “Will Spence move back down or will he vacate the titles?” These are just a couple of questions many fans will start to ponder.

IS ERROL SPENCE LEAVING THE DIVISION?

Keep in mind, The Truth has expressed on several occasions not wanting to fight Thurman. This stems from his belief that One Time did not want to fight him years ago when he only held the IBF title. So perhaps this is a way of screwing with his arch-rival by playing keep away with the championship belts.

Some boxing fans are concerned this means the undisputed fight may not happen with Spence looking to move up. However, he has stated that he would “spin the block” for the undisputed showdown with Crawford.
