Stephen Fulton May Travel to Japan to Fight Naoya Inoue!

Unified super bantamweight champion Stephen “Cool Boy Steph” Fulton (21-0, 8KO) has reshuffled the deck and could be fighting former undisputed bantamweight champion Naoya “Monster” Inoue (24-0, 21KO).

According to ESPN, the two fighters are in talks for a possible fight in Japan. The boxing community was eyeing this fight when Inoue announced wanting to move up after securing undisputed on December 13, 2022.

THE FIGHT THAT FANS WANT TO SEE

The WBO added more excitement to the mix by elevating Monster to super champion. This meant he could skip the line and challenge Fulton for the titles. However, boxing fans got kicked in the gut when plans for Fulton to rematch former champion Brandon Figueroa were announced.

The Philadelphian champion was under heavy fire as several fans accused him of ducking Inoue. On January 16, the boxing world got a glimpse of hope as rumors spread of Figueroa and former featherweight champion Mark Magsayo possibly fighting for the vacant WBC title. This had fans hoping that Fulton would indeed look to challenge Inoue, and it appears that wish may be granted.

Fulton had previously been calling for undisputed with fellow unified champion Murodjon Akhamadaliev back in 2022. During an interview with 3Kings Boxing, Fulton expressed confusion on what was holding up the fight from happening. The fight never materialized and Fulton went without a dance partner since defeating Daniel Roman in June 2022.

It will be interesting to see if those that accused Fulton of ducking Inoue are willing to apologize. 3Kings Boxing will monitor this situation and provide any further updates
