Gary Russell Jr Chimes in Critical on Tank Davis Beating Garcia
Former WBC featherweight champion “Mr.” Gary Russell Jr (31-2, 18KO) made an appearance at the lightweight battle featuring WBA Regular champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (28-0, 26KO) versus Hector Luis Garcia (16-1, 10KO). The former champion took to social media and was heavily critical of Tank’s performance.
Russell Jr has a long history of calling out Davis. In 2020, he wasted no time calling him out for a fight after witnessing Davis score a devastating one-punch stoppage over Leo Santa Cruz.
“Tank, shorty I want you so motherfucking bad!”
In 2022, the former champion stated the two fights he wanted were three-division champion Vasyl Lomachenko and Davis. The Maryland resident has not been in the ring since suffering an injury in a majority decision loss against former champion Mark Magsayo in January 2022.
RUSSELL JR IS NOT IMPRESSED
With the injury fully healed, Russell has vowed to make a comeback this year. So it’s not surprising he was at the fight and decided to go live with harsh criticism about Tank’s performance.
“I’m in here watching Tank fight, y’all. I’m not going to lie, we like five rounds in . . . I see why they don’t want him to fight me though.”
“From what I am seeing, he is slow than a motherfucker. He’s super flat-footed. Y’all better stop talking shit, talking about some Tank can do this and that, the third with me, man. This shit is terrible. If y’all see what the fuck I’m seeing, he better stay the fuck away from me, man.”
“I can tell y’all this: he can’t fuck with me. He couldn’t do shit with me even with my arm fucked up in my last fight.”
