Gary Russell Jr v Miguel Berchelt anyone?
WBC featherweight champion “Mr” Gary Russell Jr (31-1, 18KOs) is still on the search for a big fight for 2021! After failed negotiations with WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15KOs), it appears that Russell is seeking out WBC junior lightweight champion Miguel Berchelt (37-1, 33KOs).

According to ESPN, Russell has told the WBC he wants to face Miguel Berchelt next.
Russell, one of boxing’s best boxers, has been on the outside looking in when it comes to big fights. A pro for eleven years, he has not been involved in a “super fight”, which is strange for a guy of his skills and status as a champion. Now 32 years of age, he knows the time is ticking on many more big fight opportunities.
A fight with Berchelt would pit boxer vs puncher. It would also give both Russell and Berchelt the big fight they are both seeking. The winner would more than likely be catapulted into bigger money fights.
DON’T GET TOO EXCITED!
While this is a fantastic matchup, do not hold your breath on it happening, as Berchelt is eyeing a move up to lightweight after his December fight with Oscar Valdez (28-0, 22KOs). Let us hope this fight becomes a reality in 2021!
