Ryan Garcia claps back at Eddie Hearn
Rising Golden Boy Promotions lightweight fighter Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (21-0, 18ko), despite being the mandatory challenger to WBC champion Devin “The Dream” Haney, is determined to fight WBA ‘regular’ champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (24-0, 23ko).
Garcia punctuated those sentiments calling out the Baltimore power-puncher immediately after defeating Luke Campbell (20-4, 16ko) in a WBC title eliminator on January 2.
Equally important, he would even ask the crowd who they preferred to see him fight. The fans in attendance at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX overwhelmingly called for Tank.
Things have quickly escalated as the WBA ‘regular’ champion’s social media response indicates that a fight with Garcia is imminent.
“Lol, when I ever been a bitch?! You know who you talked to ten minutes before ya ring walk. The fight has already been made…now…shut up and get ready!”
Garcia has promised to knockout Tank within two rounds. He doubled down on that statement during an appearance on Mike Tyson’s podcast Hotboxin. Moreover, things got even more heated when Tank was on Face-time and made it clear that a fight with KingRy is next.
HANEY IS LEFT OUT IN THE COLD AGAIN
This brings us to the WBC champion Devin Haney. None of this has to be good news for him. Moreover, he has been calling for a fight with KingRy, and in a recent social media post, he reminded the brash young fighter that he is the mandatory, saying “Let’s make it happen!”
Furthermore, DAZN/Matchroom boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, during an interview on The Ak & Barak Show, expressed frustration and confusion as to why Garcia is not looking to cash in on his mandatory status for the WBC title.
“I really don’t understand what is going on at the moment…Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy Promotion have a contract with DAZN. Devin Haney, Matchroom has a contract with DAZN! Ryan Garcia is the mandatory challenger for Devin Haney.
This is a wonderful fight where the winner of that fight will be the WBC world champion, however you want to dress it up. My thoughts were, and I think Devin gets a little bit frustrated as well because they never mention his name ever, and I don’t understand why.
“It’s all Tank Davis, Teofimo Lopez. Why not Devin Haney?!… You are now a mandatory challenger to Devin Haney, and we have a problem in this sport where we can’t make the big fights because of politics, because of cross network promotions.”
“Well guess what? With this fight, there isn’t any! We could make this fight, this week, and I know, having spoken with DAZN, they want to move forward and make Ryan Garcia vs Devin Haney.”
NOT MY PROBLEM!
Garcia is aware of the British promoter’s comments and is staying the course on wanting to fight the WBA ‘regular’ champion, and swiftly clapped back at Hearn in classic KingRy fashion.
