Ryan Garcia Predicts a Dominant Victory Over Boots Ennis

When last answering the call of duty, IBF welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis (33-0, 29 KO’s) fought Karen Chukhadzhian. It was a rematch of their initial January 2023 dust up. Once again, Boots bested Chukhadzhian by unanimous decision. Regardless of his overall control of the bout though, many walked away from the contest feeling underwhelmed. One such spectator was two-time title challenger “King Ry” Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KO’s).

The two have flirted with the notion of facing one another, with both feeling it’s a mutually beneficial battle. Having watched his latest outing however, Garcia is confident that would smoke Ennis if they ever crossed paths professionally.

THE PLOT THICKENS!

Prior to his do-over with Chukhadzhian, Boots was generally considered an overwhelming favorite versus Garcia. Given how fickle the fans are however, this contest is likely to be viewed as much closer now. But will that perception last? Currently, King Ry is still riding out a one-year suspension for a PED’s violation in connection with his last prizefight against Devin Haney.

At the moment, Garcia is scheduled to face Jaber Zayani in a January 2025 exhibition match. So long as he looks up to snuff, King Ry’s rash and unpredictable behavior coupled with Boot’s new perceived vulnerability could work for all parties. Obviously however, to make that fight a reality, Garcia would have to move up to the welterweight division.

Following his rematch with Chukhadzhian, Boots voiced concern about it being time to move to super welterweight. This would seem to suggest that meeting Garcia at 140 is out of the question. For the time being however, this is all just wishful thinking.

WINDS OF FATE

While Garcia does represent a large-scale bout that would likely come with a hefty paycheck, Ennis is more apt to face one of the beltholders at 147 or move up 154. Yet, Ennis could be moving to a much talked about first quarter showdown with Vergil Ortiz. Assuming both win in impressive fashion, then Ennis and Garcia would be on track to line up for a mid- or late-year clash. Stranger things have happened, so let’s keep an eye on this to see what come to fruition.
