Ryan Garcia Looking Toward a Gervonta Davis Rematch Down The Line
Junior welterweight “King” Ryan Garcia (23-1, 19KO) was stopped by multi-divisional champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (29-0, 27KO) on April 22. Now he is looking to move on with his career in hopes of getting a rematch sometime down the line.
The boxing world continues to talk about Tank’s stoppage over Garcia with a body shot in the seventh round. In the build-up to the fight, the Californian attacked the character of his rival over the weight stipulations that were put in the contract.
Both fighters set social media on fire when they bet their entire purse to go to the winner. Moreover, King Ryan constantly claimed a knockout was something Davis could look forward to.
RYAN GARCIA WANTS A REMATCH IN THE FUTURE
After suffering the first blemish on his record, Garcia is ready to move on to bigger things in the junior lightweight division. During the post-fight press conference, he explained what was said after the fight and spoke about wanting a rematch in the future.
“I didn’t want him to think that I really felt any way towards him. It’s all business. We sold the fight great, and it was nothing personal, and you know we’re going to be cool . . . it was a great fight. I hope to get a rematch one day. Obviously I gotta pile up some wins, and hopefully we meet down the line again, and that’s that.”
The rematch between these two is very plausible as they are still in the prime of their careers. In addition, both fighters will be competing within neighboring divisions for some time to come.
Many pundits felt the lack of experience would be Garcia’s downfall in the fight, as such was the case. If he regroups and gains that experience, the rematch would be even bigger and more appealing to fans.
