Ryan Garcia announces Manny Pacquiao fight!
WBC Interim Lightweight champion Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (21-0, 18KOs) took to his Instagram to announce he will indeed be facing WBA Welterweight champion Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39KOs) in his next fight. 3kingsboxing.com previously reported that the two were engaged in preliminary talks. Let us keep in mind that nothing is official until we hear from the Filipino icon himself, as well as Garcia’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya.
Let us say this fight is a done deal. There are still many questions that need answers. For starters, at what weight would this fight be contested at? Currently, both men are separated by 12 pounds. At first glance, it seems as neither guy will have issues with the weight. Pacquiao, a smaller welterweight, could possibly make the junior welterweight limit of 140 rather easily. His last bout at the weight came in 2009 against Ricky Hatton, whom he blitzed in two rounds! As for Garcia, moving up to junior welterweight or welterweight would be no task at all.
More things to consider is will the fight have any bearing on both men’s belts they currently posses. Pacquiao holds the WBA welterweight title and has not fought in nearly two years. Will the sanctioning organization allow him to make a voluntary title defense or strip him of his title? Another thing to ponder is whether or not this possible fight will affect Garcia’s standing as the mandatory to WBC lightweight Devin Haney. All of these questions will need to be answered to get clarity on this matchup.
As of now, the only person to announce this fight as a done deal is Garcia himself. Until we hear from the powers that be, everyone should control their emotions towards this fight.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor this situation closely and provide updates as they become available.
