Ryan Garcia On The Hunt For A New Trainer After Split With Joe Goossen
According to ESPN, super lightweight boxer “King” Ryan Garcia (23-1, 19 KO’s) has parted ways with head coach Joe Goossen. The news comes roughly about a week after Garcia suffered his first professional loss to Regular WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis. The prizefight, which took place in the T-Mobile Arena, was a huge financial success. The event garnered more than 1 million pay-per-view buys.
While there did not appear to be any animosity or troubled waters abound, the news is still not terribly surprising. It is rather commonplace in this day and age for fighters to split with trainers following a defeat. The bout with Tank Davis stood as the third time that Goossen went to the ring with Garcia serving as his chief second.
ON TO THE NEXT ONE!
Prior to the fight, Goossen was nothing but a fountain of compliments when it came to describing King Ryan. Before he ever coached Garcia, Goossen had enjoyed a very lush and historical career. He has trained such boxers as: Riddick Bowe, Joel Casamayor, John Molina and Sugar Shane Mosley, among many more.
At the present time, there is no indication of who will be filling in as Garcia’s new trainer. While it may be something of a long shot, Calvin Ford, chief second to Gervonta Davis, said he’d be very willing to train King Ryan. Given the fact that Team Davis just defeated Garcia, its rather unlikely that the Californian kid will be headed to Baltimore to train any time soon. Although, stranger things have certainly taken place in the sport of boxing.
Prior to Joe Goossen, Garcia was trained by Eddy Reynoso, the famed head coach for boxing cash cow Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. While Garcia and Reynoso parted on good terms publicly, there were rumors that there was a fair amount of unrest beneath the surface. It will be interesting to see who, and when, King Ryan declares another head coach. Regardless of when that takes place, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report all the latest developments!
