Ryan Garcia Isn’t Afraid To Challenge Jaron Ennis

“King Ry” Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20KO) wants to fight as a full-blown welterweight after scoring a career-high victory. In addition, he isn’t looking to take the easy route and has called for a fight against IBF champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis (31-1, 15KO).

The boxing community hasn’t stopped talking about King Ry’s upset victory over WBC junior welterweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney. Fans endured months of watching Garcia appear to be self-destructing only to find out it was all a ruse.

Immediately following the match, both rivals called for a rematch. However, they may not rematch after all, considering the recent chain of events.

While speaking with the media, Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn was interrupted by King Ry’s father, Henry Garcia. As the two exchanged words in a heated verbal back and forth, the elder Garcia wanted to know who Hearn had in mind next for his son.

IS THE IBF WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION NEXT?

The British promoter quickly mentioned Boots’ name and all of a sudden, the temperature changed as two men were acting cordial. This wasn’t the end of fans hearing the IBF’s champions’ name. During the post-fight interview, Garcia expressed that fighting at welterweight is the next move.

“I’m going to 147, I can’t make fucking 140 . . . my body can’t literally go lower than 143. It’s impossible.”

Then, while exiting the arena, King Ry didn’t hesitate to call for a fight with Ennis, when asked who in the division he wanted to fight.

“Let’s run it with Boots.”

This fight won’t happen next, but it’s not a stretch of it possibly happening in 2025. The hard-hitting Philadelphian is part of the DAZN family after signing with Hearn to the shock of the boxing public. Ennis has been looking to land a big name and with both fighters on the same streaming service, there is a good chance a fight can be made.

Only time will tell if Garcia is serious about fighting Boots.
