Bilal Akkawy replaces David Lemieux May 4!

In a last minute alteration, John “Guerilla” Ryder (27-4- 15KOs) will face Bilal Akkawy (20-0-1, 16KOs) on May 4. This WBA interim super middleweight title bout will feature on the Canelo Alvarez vs Daniel Jacobs under-card.

Originally, former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux was to fight Ryder for the belt. However, a hand injury in camp forced him to step aside, allowing Akkawy the opportunity. Thankfully, the Australian remained in fighting shape from his March 9 match-up and was eager to answer the call.

As a stablemate of Canelo Alvarez, Akkawy has every intention on seizing this very precious title shot opportunity on this grand stage. Although, across the ring, Ryder will have other plans. He will be looking for a win to maintain his mandatory position to fight WBA super middleweight champion Callum Smith or have a shot at Alavarez who is the WBA regular champion.
