Sebastian Fundora Has No Intention of Vacating his WBO Title

Sampson Boxing president Sampson Lewkowicz is adamant that unified junior middleweight champion Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora (21-1-1, 13KO) will not be vacating the WBO title.

Despite suffering a broken nose, Fundora was victorious in becoming a unified champion by defeating one-time WBO champion Tim Tszyu. The Floridan didn’t get a chance to enjoy the victory before the WBO came knocking ordering a title defense against Crawford.

Another issue that could be problematic is that Team Fundora wants to honor Tszyu’s rematch clause. With so many moving parts, boxing fans wonder if The Towering Inferno will vacate the title or will the WBO strip away the title providing he isn’t able to return to the ring anytime soon.

THEY HAVE NO PLANS TO VACATE

In an exclusive interview with 3Kings Boxing, Mr. Lewkowicz addressed the situation with his fighter’s injury and other concerns surrounding the titles.

“The doctor said he can’t return to the ring until September. Fundora will need five or six months to recover from an injury of that magnitude. However, he will not be vacating the title.”

As far as the WBO stripping Fundora of the titles and negotiating a fight with Crawford, he replied:

“That’s up to the WBO on what they want to do. A member of Team Crawford reached out with an offer to make the fight in June or July. Yet, I informed them I will not be entertaining any offers while the unified champion is injured.”

WHEN WILL THE CHAMPION RETURN?

Lewkowicz stated that a medical extension has been filed with WBO concerning The Towering Inferno’s injury. Now, when it comes to who the unified champion will fight first, Crawford or Tszyu, the promoter replied:

“That will come down to who’s willing to wait until November or December, which is the time frame that Fundora will be returning to the ring.”

It will be interesting to see how things play out. 3kings Boxing will continue to monitor this story for any further development.
