Could we get Leo Santa Cruz vs Gervonta Davis next?
WBA featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz has started traning camp preparations for a possible June or July return.
“Training for whom,” you may ask. That’s not exactly known at the moment. However, if you’re holding out hope for him to unify with WBC featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr then you may want to shift your focus on another fight involving Santa Cruz instead.
3kingsboxing.com has learned Santa Cruz doesn’t think a fight with Russell Jr will happen. Instead, he’s looking at moving up in weight to junior lightweight to face WBA super champion Gervonta Davis.
This comes as a surprise as many people expected we would finally see a long anticipated unification bout. Furthermore, there are rumors Davis will be fighting 37 year-old former two-time featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa next.
However as you know with boxing, things can turn rather quickly!
A Davis vs Santa Cruz match-up is one that fans may find interest in, although, it is a fight that’s not needed at the moment. Davis has unfinished business at junior lightweight, as does Cruz at featherweight.
While nothing is formal, 3kingsboxing.comwill continue to monitor this story and provide updates as they become available.
