Sergey Lipinets Set to Replace Adrien Broner Against Omar Figueroa
Another man’s loss is another man’s gain! After four-division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (34-4-1-1, 24KOs) withdrew from his August 20 fight against former WBC lightweight champion Omar Figueroa (28-2-1, 19KOs) citing mental health issues, former IBF junior welterweight champ Sergey Lipinets (16-2-1, 12KOs) steps up to the plate!
While one of the main event participants has changed, the fact that this is a true crossroads bout and a must-win for both fighters hasn’t. Lipinets hasn’t fought since April 2021, when he was stopped in six rounds by welterweight boogeyman Jaron Ennis. Prior to that, he fought to a draw in his bid to become IBF interim welterweight champion against Custio Clayton in October 2020.
WELCOME TO THE CROSSROADS
This matchup has the potential to be an even better fight as both men have fan-friendly, come-forward styles with good power. A win for either man will surely inject some much needed life into two dwindling careers.
