Serrano Shines in Hanson Stoppage; Baumgardner Among Options
Unified featherweight champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano ran over mandatory challenger Cheyenne Hanson in two quick rounds. She may want to recapture the undisputed crown by challenging WBC champion Tiara Brown and IBF champion Nina Menke. Moreover, she could move up and challenge unified junior lightweight champion Alycia Baumgardner.
The Real Deal came out on fire, landing hard shots from the opening bell. After a blistering first round, she continued to throw hard shots that forced Hanson into the corner. The referee jumped in to stop the fight in the second round, when the German fighter didn’t return fire.
Although Serrano didn’t mention any names she wants to fight next, there are plenty of challengers that would love to step in the ring. She could try and lure Menke to leave Germany and come to the US for a shot at greatness. A fight with Brown would be amazing, as both champions are high-volume punchers.
However, the smart money is on a major blockbuster showdown with stablemate Baumgardner. This would be a financial success and exciting to watch, if the fight gets made. The unified 130-pound champion’s handspeed and footwork would provide plenty of difficulties for Serrano.
Yet, Serrano’s power and aggression present a serious problem for Baumgardner. It will be interesting to see what Team Serrano decides to do next.
