Shakur Stevenson Scores The Late Stoppage Over Josh Padley
WBC lightweight champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (23-0, 11KO) stopped replacement fight Josh “Paddy” Padley (15-1, 4KO) with ease.
It was a more aggressive Fearless, who started the fight by throwing hard shots early. He went to the body and halted any momentum Paddy tried to establish.
Although he brought the crowd alive with the occasional flurry, Stevenson needed to keep pressing the action. Despite possibly suffering a left-hand injury, Stevenson hurt the undefeated Brit with body shots.
He repeatedly landed hard shots to both the head and body. In round nine, Stevenson put Padley on the canvas with a vicious body shot. After scoring two more knockdowns from body shots, Padley’s corner threw in the towel.
Playing the role of the villain, Stevenson jumped on the ropes urging the crowd to boo him. Like it or not the only fight that matters next is a unification against WBA champion Gervonta Davis.
Stevenson is one of the top defensive fighters in boxing, and we need to see if that will hold up against one of the hardest hitters in the sport.
